Product Description
Based on the true story of the 1928 Wineville chicken coop murders, Christine Collins is incarcerated when she denies that the boy found by the police

Clint Eastwood’s mastery as a director, established over the past decade and a half with Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, and others, continues with Changeling, a 2008 offering based on a shocking but all-too-true story about child abduction and police corruption in 1920s Los Angeles. Single mother Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie, excellent in a role with somewhat limited parameters) finds her 9-year-old son, Walter, missing when she returns home from work one day. She files a report with the Los Angeles Police Department, an outfit that was wildly unpopular at the time (in his regular radio broadcast, a crusading pastor played by John Malkovich decries the force as "violent and corrupt," adding that "our protectors are our brutalizers"). When a child roughly matching Walter’s description turns up in Illinois five months later, the LAPD, intent on salvaging its tattered reputation, is only too eager to claim that he is Collins’ missing child. Little matters that he’s three inches shorter, is circumcised (Walter wasn’t), and fails to pass muster with Walter’s dentist, schoolteacher, and others; the cops, in particular the odious Captain J.J. Jones (Jeffrey Donovan), insist that the mistake is Christine’s, not theirs. What follows is almost too nightmarish to believe--except that it actually happened. Exasperated by Collins’ continued claim that "Walter" is a fraud, they trot out a doctor to reinforce the bogus ID, declare her unfit as a mother, and finally have her committed to a local psychopathic ward. Through it all, Collins, bolstered by the pastor and thousands of outraged Angelenos, refuses to sign a document that would exonerate the police for their egregious error. As for Walter, it’s only when the LAPD’s seemingly only honest detective (Michael Kelly) takes matters into his own hands that the grisly mystery of the child’s fate begins to be solved. That would have been a good place for the film to conclude, too. Unfortunately, it goes on for more than another half hour, with innumerable false endings that add nothing to the story and could just as easily have been summarized with a few sentences before the final credits. That flaw aside (and it’s a major one), Changeling is a powerful film, with a realistic period feel, a wonderfully muted vibe and color palette, and an understated score by Eastwood himself. --Sam Graham

4 out of 5 stars Excellent movie   August 21, 2010
Betty L. Baker (Tinley Park, Illinois USA)
Angelina Jolie is excellent in the role of a telephone supervisor, whose young son is abducted while she is at work. Ultimately she is informed that her son has been found alive, but when she goes to the railroad station to greet her returning son, she claims that the boy is not her son. She is criticized and reprimanded by a corrupt police lieutenant, who decides to commit her to an insane asylum. Meanwhile a pastor has been helping her discover the truth, which finally shows her son actually died heroically trying to save another boy from a madman who was brutally murdering young boys. There are two trial scenes; one where the murderer is brought to justice and one where the police lieutenant is demoted and the equally corrupt police chief loses his job as well. Based on a true story, this film is well done, and I recommend it as a must-see motion picture.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie!!! All-time favorite actoress!   August 19, 2010

I just reviewed Mr. & Mrs. Smith and had the same great things to say about that movie. The Changling is based on a true story and really touches your heart. Angelina Jolie does an amazing job portraying this woman and her times of trial. This is a must have for those who enjoy movies set "back in the day" and for any Angelina Jolie fan.

4 out of 5 stars Good, not quite brilliant   August 19, 2010

We have here stark and trenchant exploration of current issues without preaching: police corruption, the death penalty, the nature of evil. But the film has to overcome its somewhat trite 20s-era staging (everything and everyone looks so clean in those streetcars!). Jolie is surprisingly good, though not quite brilliant, as the worried working mother who learns to take on the system. Malkovitch offers fascinating nuance as the crusading church leader and moral hero. And Jason Butler Harner provides the right niceness on top of his despicable evil; together they make it riveting right up until his theatrically brilliant hanging at San Quentin.

4 out of 5 stars very well acted, well written   August 3, 2010

I enjoyed this movie, and it had great acting- Michael Kelly was outstanding. It held my attention well, especially because I had no idea what the movie was about before watching it.

I wouldn't call it a feminist movie. It had no alterior motives that I could see, it simply told the story (as outrageous as the story was, it was true).
Jolie's character had no selfish motives, she simply did what she needed to do to fight for her son's life. And she was portrayed as a real woman who, though strong inside, was still vulnerable. To me, a feminist movie is one that always has to portray women as butt-kicking she-males who do everything a man does (those irritate me).

5 out of 5 stars ANGELINA JOLIE and CLINT EASTWOOD = A Winning Team!   July 16, 2010

The year 2008 was a year where he OSCARS where a FIASCO. Movies like this one that should've gotten OSCARS(Angelina was nominated as Best female actress and didnt get an Oscar - what a shame!)were treated by the wayside.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button suffered the same fate. That was the best movie of that year and like Forrest Gump it shouldve cleaned house. Brad Pitt on this movie was also nominated for Best Actor but was given to Sean Pean for a movie called MILK that you can find now at Walmart for $5. I guess they wanted to get in good with the Gay community at the Oscars because MILK cant touch Benjamin Button.

To the surprise of many, this was a great movie directed by Clint Eastwood.

PLOT - This movie takes place in the 20s. Angelina is a phone operator supervisor and leaves her son at home as she goes to work. When she returns she cant find him anywhere so she files a police report and tries for the police to help her but at that time, the police didnt want to look bad so they put her in a psychiatric ward because she made public that the police failed to help her finding her son.

It narrows down that a man in the 30s killed 19 kids and one of the kids that escaped came forward to tell the tale. The kid mentioned he saw Angelina's son as this man massacred kids sometimes 5 at a time.

With the help of an attorney, Angelina files a lawsuit against the police dept and not only the killer was sentenced to die by hanging but unfortunately Angelina was never able to recover from the loss of her son.

Is a great movie with a lot of substance that again it was treated by the wayside!!!
