Product Description "Professor Parker Wilson is a distinguished scholar who discovers a lost Akita puppy on his way home from work. Despite initial objections from Wilson
Based on a true story from Japan, Hachi: A Dog's Tale is a moving film about loyalty and the rare, invincible bonds that occasionally form almost instantaneously in the most unlikely places. College professor Parker Wilson (Richard Gere) finds a young Akita puppy that's been abandoned at the local train station, and he's instantly captivated by the dog. Assuming the dog's owner will return to the train station to claim him in the morning, Parker takes the puppy home overnight. But when no one comes to get the dog, Parker convinces his wife, Cate (Joan Allen), to welcome him as part of the family. He dubs the puppy Hachiko--Hachi, for short--because of the Japanese symbol for good luck that's hanging from his collar. Hachi is a somewhat peculiar dog that refuses to learn to fetch or master other people-pleasing tricks, but he is a faithful companion and friend to Parker, alerting him of potential dangers and accompanying him to the train station each morning and meeting him there after his return trip each evening. An unforeseen event will continually test Hachi's devotion. This film is neither overwrought nor sappy; it is heartfelt and immensely powerful despite its tendency to drag in a few places. Prepare to be moved to tears by this beautiful, seemingly simple film--it's about so much more than just the relationship between a man and his dog. --Tami Horiuchi

Heartwarming movie August 30, 2010 Nakina Jones One of the most heartwarming movies I have ever seen. If you can watch this without shedding a tear, it would be hard to believe. Great acting, including the Akita. I totally recommend this movie to people of all ages.
"Hachiko : A Tearful Dog's Story" August 22, 2010 M. Mariba (south africa) This an excellent, emotional, interesting & moving story titled "Hachi : A Dog's Tale" starring Richard Gere & Joan Allen. This movie is based on a true story of an Akita dog in 1925, Japan that continued to wait at a train station where his deceased master travelled to and from Tokyo University until the dog died ten years later. This story inspired passersby to erect a bronze stature of this dog.A real moving story starring the legendary actor Richard Gere, a highly inspirational movie & highly recommended viewing.
For the dog lover in your life... August 16, 2010 BAS The video "Hachi:A Dog's Tale" is one of the most amazing and heart warming videos
I have seen in a long time. Richard Gere is at his best in this true story about a
man and his dog.
This movie effects viewers in an interesting way. The person I watched the video with
began calling every noble dog he saw, "Hachi". Very embarrassing but understandable.
Surprise ending for those who think they know how every movie is supposed to end.
A Good Movie with a Message August 16, 2010 RoamingDoc (Los Angeles) First there are probably few people visiting Amazon that knew the real "hero", Hachi, or how he lived day to day in Japan at the time of the original event.
The movie centers around loyalty and that was the beginning and the end... Parker's son indicates that fact and so does Parker's friend, Ken. Attachment and loyalty and relationship with Hachi and "one" person are the keys to understanding the movie. Indeed, Parker's daughter finally grasps that fact in a key moment of the film and opens the gate... some folks are reading way to much into the film, the events and the responses of some characters. To them, well, there's more to life than the polished Hollywood effort to bring to film a human interest story from 1920's and 30s. If you cry to hard to cannot watch it, well... visit a third world nation and see how they treat their pets.
Given what the film was portraying, given the limits of a film 'about' a non-speaking hero and the time lapse between then and now this film does a fine job of presenting the issue of compassion, loyalty and Hachi.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale August 15, 2010 Linda Excellent movie - and if you're a collector of Richard Gere movies, you don't want to miss this one.
